Install and Configure the IIS and SMTP Services

Before you can configure an Email Queuing Desktop SMTP agent, you will need to install and configure the IIS SMTP Service on the CTI Server. Once this has been installed, you can configure the domain and drop directory settings for this service.

Before you begin

Check if the IIS and SMTP Service are already installed on the CTI Server:

  1. From Start > Administrative Tools look for Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
  2. If it is installed, open IIS and check if Default SMTP Virtual Server is available. If these items are available, you do not need to complete the following procedure. Go straight to Configure Access, Delivery and Security.
Important Note:
The steps required to install IIS and SMTP Services differ depending on the operating system that is present on the CTI Server. Ensure that the correct procedure is followed for the operating system that is installed on site.

  1. Click the Server Manager icon (this is located next to the Windows Start button).
  2. Click the Roles node. Then, click Add Roles.
  1. The Add Roles wizard is displayed. Click Next.
  1. The Server Roles screen is displayed. Check the Web Server (IIS) checkbox. Then, click Next.
  1. The Introduction to IIS screen is displayed. Click Next.
  1. The Select Role Services Screen is displayed.
    Ensure the following options are selected in addition to the default options:
    • IIS 6 Metabase Compatibility
    • IIS 6 Management Console Services
    • ODBC Logging
    • Common HTTp Features:
      • HTTP Redirection
      • WebDAV Publishing
    • Application Development (and all child nodes)
    • Health and Diagnostics
      • Logging Tools
      • Tracing
      • Custom Logging
    • Security (and all child nodes)
    • Performance (and all child nodes)

    Ensure the following options are NOT selected :
    • Performance > Dynamic Content Compression
    • FTP Server
    • FTP Server > FTP Service
    • FTP Server > FTP Extensibility
    • FTP Server > IIS Hostable Web Core

    Click Next.

 
  1. The Confirm Installation Selections screen is displayed. Click Install.

 
  1. The Installation Results screen is displayed. Click Close to exit the wizard.
Tip:
To verify that the IIS installation has completed correctly, open a web browser and browse to http://localhost. The following image will be displayed:

  1. Click the Server Manager icon (this is located in the bottom left hand corner of the screen).
  2. Select Dashboard, then select Add roles and features.
  1. The Add Roles and Features wizard opens. Click Next.
  1. The Select installation type screen appears.
    • Role-based or feature-based installation - select this if you are installing on the local machine.
    • Remote Desktop Services Installation - select this if you are installing on a remote machine.

    Click Next.
  1. The Select destination server screen appears. Select either Select a server from the server pool or Select a virtual hard disk, as appropriate.
  2. From the list of servers, select the server on which you wish to install IIS 8. Click Next.
  1. The Select server roles screen appears. In the list of server roles, check Web Server (IIS).
  1. The Add features that are required for Web Server (IIS)? screen appears. Click Add features.
  2. In the Select server roles screen, click Next.
  1. The Select features screen appears. Select SMTP Server.
  1. The Add features that are required for SMTP Server? screen appears. Click Add Features.
  2. In the Select Features screen, click Next.
  1. The Web Server Role (IIS) screen appears. Click Next.

  1. The Select role services screen appears. Ensure that the following options are selected in addition to the default options:

    • Health and Diagnostics
      • ODBC Logging
    • Management Tools
      • IIS 6 Management Compatibility
      • IIS 6 Metabase Compatibility
      • IIS 6 Management Console

    Click Next.
  1. The Confirm installation selections screen appears. Click Install.
  1. The Installation progress screen appears. Once installation is complete, click Close.
Tip:
To verify that IIS installation has been successful, open a web browser and navigate to http://localhost. An IIS 8 splash screen displays.

Install the SMTP Feature

  1. On the left pane of Server Manager, click Features.
  2. Click Add Features on the right pane.
  3. In the Select Features screen, select the SMTP Server. The Add Features wizard is displayed.
  1. Click Add Required Features.
  1. The Add Features wizard is displayed. Click Next.
  1. The Confirm Installation Selection screen is displayed. Click Install.
  1. The Installation Results screen is displayed after the SMTP installation has completed. Click Close.
  1. In Windows, click Start > Administrative Tools > Services. The Services screen is displayed.
  1. Double click the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) service. The Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) Properties screen is displayed.
  2. Set the Startup type to Automatic. Then click OK.
