SNMP Notification Overview
SNMP is a common standard employed by large enterprises to manage their networks through SNMP management consoles. SNMP Alert Notification has the ability to provide SNMP-standard information to specified users and process SNMP requests from third parties with the ability to receive SNMP traps (notifications).
- When the module is first installed, the Windows SNMP Service is also installed (if it is not already installed) and the default trap destination can be configured from the installation screen. Additional trap destinations must be configured manually in the Windows SNMP Service.
- The module's interval and alert settings and language can be configured in Application Manager by configuring the SNMP Alert Notification module. If you want to use the default settings for the module, you do not need to configure these settings.
Note: |

Windows Server 2012 introduced Windows Service Hardening, which prevents TCP communications with the Windows SNMP service. To circumvent this, when the SNMPAlertNotification.msi installer is run on a Windows Server 2012 machine, the installer introduces an exception in the Windows Service Hardening to allow the Windows SNMP service to communicate with Communications Center Messaging via TCP. |
- There are various SNMP management consoles available to view and receive traps. The CTI-ALERT-MIB file should be loaded into the site's SNMP management console to make trap information received from the CTI Application Server more meaningful. The default location of the CTI-ALERT-MIB is in the CTI folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Telephony\CTI\MIBs\CTI-ALERT-MIB) on the CTI Application Server. The MIB must be loaded to the default MIB location of each machine using an SNMP management console and which does not have access to the CTI Application Server's bin directory.
The following procedures must be performed to setup the SNMP Alert Notification module.
- Install SNMP Alert Notification
- Configure Windows SNMP Service
- Configure SNMP Alert Notification Module
Further information on the SNMP Alert Notification module can be found in Using SNMP Alert Notification.
